Accessibility to Jobs

It is important for workers at all income levels to be able to get to their jobs in a reasonable amount of time. An analysis by the Brookings Institution compared the public transit systems in the nation’s 100 largest metropolitan areas, and reported that overall, the Tucson metro provided good access to all income groups, earning it a high level ranking (4th). The Brookings report noted that Western metros generally did well in this regard, in part because most of the available jobs were in central cities, rather than in the suburbs. Note also that a high proportion of low income workers in Tucson (68%) could easily make use of public transit to get to work.
