Neighborhood Stress Index

On the basis of 27 measures gathered from the 2000 US Census, a composite index of neighborhood stress was computed for Tucson, and later for Pima County as a whole.  The scores for each Census Tract are based on that area’s departure from the city, or county mean. These measures of social dependency and housing need that were relevant in 2003, are likely to be relevant in 2013. We are hopeful that we will be able to update this analysis on the basis of data from the 2010 Census (click to enlarge or download a copy here).
