University of Arizona Athletics

Athletics at the University of Arizona provide the Greater Tucson Region with an unmatched diversity of high level intramural sport. Football, basketball, and most recently, baseball coverage routinely claims first page, and often leading story position in local and regional news media. Members express their pride in these teams by wearing hats, shirts, scarves and gloves bearing the red, white and blue A.

This year, the baseball team claimed the national championship, perhaps just coincidentally with the university’s decision to play its games at Hi Corbett Field, now that the facility no longer hosts Colorado Rockies spring training. Attendance at home games this year drew large audiences, averaging over 2,600 per game, with a total of 5,084 for the NCAA Regional game against Missouri in June.
