Success in a rapidly changing economy requires a diverse workforce with sufficient education and training to compete successfully for increasingly demanding jobs. The Brookings Institution ranked the Tucson Metro as 41st among the top 100 US Metro areas on the basis of the share of our residents with college degrees. They also note that this share nearly doubled (191%) since 1970.
We also want to call your attention to changes in the educational attainment of our adult population (25 years of age and above) as reflected in yearly Census estimates. It will be important for us to determine which factors are constraining the development of our workforce.
