Many Tucsonans are proud of their volunteer activities, in part because the proportion volunteering in the metro area (28%) was higher than the national average (26.5%). The number of hours per resident (33.4) year was slightly less than the national average (34.1). National averages were also higher in three of the four areas of volunteerism usually compared (fundraising, distributing food, and general labor), while volunteers in the region exceeded the national average in tutoring.
