University of Florida Invites Dr. Nelson to be Keynote Speaker

Dr. Chris Nelson was a keynote speaker celebrating the 40th anniversary of theUniversity of Florida's Department of Urban Planning. While a professor of city planning and Georgia Tech between 1987 and 2002, Dr. Nelson helped shape Florida's planning laws limiting urban sprawl. In his keynote address, "The Next 15 (or so) Million: Planning Challenges and Opportunities for Students", he observes that during the 20th century, Florida went from the smallest and poorest state in the South to the largest and wealthiest. Within the careers of many current University of Florida planning students, Dr. Nelson showed that the state may add another 15 million people. He offered a strategy future planners can follow to meet those challenges by seizing emerging redevelopment opportunities. The University of Florida's president also hosted Dr. Nelson in the President's Suite for the Florida-LSU football game.
