Summer Internship Report: SoA Rising Fifth Years Put Their Skills to Work
Four of SoA's rising fifth year students answered our call to tell us where they're working this summer!
Eric Sterner was awarded a summer internship with Gensler in Phoenix. Eric was one of hundreds of applicants for the position and plans on working closely with the global design firm utilizing environmental software in their schematic design process.
Andrew Cusick has worked for two architecture firms this year. During the school year, he worked for Dave Diebold Architects teamed with Smithgroup on design renovations to UA School of Agriculture. Currently, he's working at DLR Group in Phoenix on a master plan for Kenyatta University in Kenya and a high school campus for Wes-mec.
Andrea Rose is working as an intern with Sundt Construction on the UA Old Main Renovation. Because it is a design/build project, Andrea is part of a collaborative effort between Sundt and architects Poster Frost Mirto and has been able to experience first-hand interactions between the two disciplines. Andrea was hired last February to do LEED tracking, but she has also had the opportunity to work on Construction Documents and Requests For Information. The project is scheduled to wrap up in late summer and Andrea reports, "It's been a really cool, different experience!"
Lisa Martinez interned during the latter part of the Spring semester with Rick Joy Architects, assisting them with an international design competition that focused on a new center for a famous musical composer in Estonia, which can be viewed at: http://www.archdaily.com/tag/arvo-part/ During the summer, she is interning with Architekton in Phoenix. She just started this week, so she promises to tell us later this summer about her projects and her overall experience!
