Laboratories focus on identification and description of native and select exotic landscape plants frequently used in landscape design and revegetation in the Southwest. Lectures emphasize terminology, plant care and maintenance, and influence of site conditions and requirements on plant selection.
Objectives: Upon completion of the course students should:
  • Be able to identify species commonly used in created landscapes of the Southwest;
  • Know cultural requirements, region of origin, recommended landscape uses, and other important features of species included in the course;
  • Understand general characteristics of native plant communities of this region;
  • Be able to select appropriate plants for various design situations.
