Our faculty are nationally recognized experts in the field of transportation as it relates to urban planning and land use development. Their research investigates the interconnectedness of transportation equity, affordable housing, and public health as well as the relationships that exist between land use development and travel behavior.

The University of Arizona is one of five partner institutions in the National Institute for Transportation and Communities (NITC), a program of the Transportation Research and Education Center (TREC) at Portland State University. NITC is the U.S. Department of Transportation’s national center for livable communities and one of the U.S. DOT’s national university transportation centers. This partnership results in transportation research funding as well as scholarships for CAPLA students who have demonstrated an interest in transportation.
