Sustainable Built Environments
Ladd Keith is the Chair of the Sustainable Built Environments Program and will transition from Lecturer to Assistant Professor in Planning at The University of Arizona in 2019. He is a PhD Candidate in Arid Lands Resource Sciences and researches policy innovation in planning practice, including the use of climate science in the planning and design of cities. He is also a Research Affiliate at CLIMAS (Climate Assessment for the Southwest) and on the Advisory Team of CCASS (Center for Climate Adaptation Science and Solutions). He currently teaches Public Participation and Dispute Resolution and Planning for Urban Resilience.
Mr. Keith has led the development and analysis of planning policies at the local level, including land use and development regulations, comprehensive plans, hazard mitigation plans, and climate action plans. He serves on the City of Tucson's Planning Commission where, as Chair, he led the commission's public participation process for Plan Tucson: General & Sustainability Plan, which guides city planning policy for the next decade. He is also an active member of the American Planning Association and the Urban Land Institute and was recognized as one of ULI's 40 under 40.
Mr. Keith is a native Tucsonan and a graduate of The University of Arizona with a Master of Science in Planning. Prior to his master’s degree, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Media Arts with a Minor in Japanese. He currently lives in Tucson with his husband and their son and daughter.
