Biography
As director of marketing and communications, Simmons Buntin is responsible for marketing, branding, communications, media relations and storytelling for the college and its programs. He also represents CAPLA on university committees on marketing and communications. Prior to joining CAPLA in January 2020, he led cross-college, interdisciplinary teams as the web program manager at the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management, where he served as interim director of marketing and communications in 2017. Simmons is also the founding editor-in-chief of Terrain.org, an award-winning online journal publishing a rich mix of literary and technical work on the built and natural environments since 1998. He is the author of four books: the anthology Dear America: Letters of Hope, Habitat, Defiance and Democracy, Unsprawl: Remixing Spaces as Places (a collection of mixed-use community case studies) and two collections of poetry. His book Satellite: Essays Near and Far will be published in early 2025. He has published widely and lectured on project management, web development, writing, editing, publishing, and new urbanism. He is a certified Project Management Professional, holds a Master of Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Colorado Denver and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Arizona and is a member of the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment and Community of Literary Magazines and Presses.
