NEWS | Pivo's expertise sought for national and international sustainability efforts
Gary Pivo, Ph.D., Professor of Planning, represented the UN Environment Program Finance Initiative in support of an effort to deliver expert guidance to stimulate transition to Smart Sustainable Cities. The initiative released four new reports this September, 2017. Sixteen United Nations bodies contributed to the development of the reports, a process coordinated by ITU and the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). The reports are:
- Connecting cities and communities with the Sustainable Development Goals
- Enhancing innovation and participation in smart sustainable cities
- Implementing Sustainable Development Goal 11 by connecting sustainability policies and urban planning practices through ICTs
- Collection Methodology for Key Performance Indicators for Smart Sustainable Cities
Pivo is also currently in the process of advising the US Department of Energy on the organization of a workshop designed to catalyze research on the potential links between energy efficient, high-performance buildings, and their financial performance. The meeting will bring an international group of leading academics in this field, including Planning and Real Estate Professor Drew Sanderford, to the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill for a meeting on October 6 and 7, 2017.
