The UA Green Fund approved funding for $25,025 for the project “Addressing environmental injustice around green infrastructure in Tucson, Arizona” led by Adriana Zuniga, CAPLA lecturer, and Andrea Gerlak, Associate Professor in the School of Geography and Development and Associate Research Professor at the Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy.

The proposed project builds on a Haury-funded research project designed to engage with the local community around the social justice dimensions of green infrastructure, in collaboration with Watershed Management Group, Tierra y Libertad Organization and the Sonoran Institute.

The Green Fund will support green infrastructure design, implementation, and evaluation at STAR Academic High School, engaging UA students and students at STAR.

School of Landscape Architecture and Planning Professor Bo Yang will use this project in his studio class for the Master of Landscape Architecture program. Through green infrastructure, this project seeks to decrease flooding and heat and make neighborhoods healthier and more livable.
