Biography

Vera Gates is a California-licensed landscape architect. She was a founding partner of Arterra Landscape Architects, in San Francisco, where she orchestrated the design and construction of over 100 built projects. Her strength is design, with an emphasis on artistic form and sustainable systems.

Vera received her BS in Landscape Architecture from California Polytechnic State University, in San Luis Obispo, and worked for EDAW in San Francisco, before starting her own firm. She is a LEED Accredited Professional and taught at the UC Berkeley Extension program of Landscape Architecture for many years. Her courses included Landscape Graphics and Design.

Along with now teaching at the University of Arizona, Vera is a fine artist, living and working in Tucson. She paints and shows her work at her Ninth Street Gallery.
