Welcome to the College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture!
Below is a checklist to help you get fully situated in CAPLA and the University of Arizona. It contains contact information as well as directions for getting through the Human Resources onboarding process, getting connected on campus and integrating with your school/department.

Step 1: Meet with/contact Human Resources before coming into work.
- There are a number of online forms you need to complete before your first day of work. HR can help walk you through the process.
- Carmen Robles is your HR contact at CAPLA and can be reached at 520-621-0111 or at carmenrobles@arizona.edu.
Step 2: First day of work, meet with home department
- Meet with your supervisor for their orientation
- Take a tour of CAPLA
Step 3: Getting connected with IT services (you can start this on your own or work with IT)
Please contact caplait@list.arizona.edu or 520-621-3284 with any questions about the steps below. You can also get help during the weekend or evenings by calling the UArizona 24/7 help line at 520-626-8324. Many of the steps below can not be started until you are an official employee of UArizona.
- Setting up your UArizona NetID and Password – This is the primary way you will access secure areas of the University of Arizona. Your NetID is also the first part of your email address.
- Visit https://netid.arizona.edu/ to create your NetID.
- Visit https://netid.arizona.edu/ to create your NetID.
- Setup NetID+ Duo Authentication – The university has moved to a secure process for certain web pages that requires a second means of confirming your identity. This is usually done using your phone (either cell or landline).
- Go to https://netid.arizona.edu/ to create setup NetID+ (click on "Manage Netid+" at the bottom of the middle column).
- Additional tutorials can be found at https://it.arizona.edu/service/netid-plus under the “Support, How-To’s & Info” Tab.
- Setup your Box (online storage) and Google for Education accounts
- Box gives you access to secure cloud storage (FERPA compliant but not HIPAA compliant) and is CAPLA’s preferred method for cloud storage.
- To create a box account:
- Visit http://account.arizona.edu and log in with your NetID and password.
- Click the "Manage Your Accounts" button on the left menu.
- Under Available Accounts, click on the "Box" button to create your account.
- You should have a folder called "YourNetID_UABox". This folder is on the CAPLA system and all UA related files should be stored there. Placing files here should not count. against your 50GB allocation. If you do not see this folder, please contact the CAPLA IT Department.

- Google for Education gives you access to Google's host of tools, such as google docs, google drive etc.
- Add Google for Education applications to your UA faculty/Staff account:
- Visit http://account.arizona.edu and log in with your NetID and password.
- Click the "Manage Your Accounts" button on the left menu.
- Under Available Accounts, click on the "UA Google Apps for Education" button to create your account.
- For more information about Google Apps go to http://uits.arizona.edu/services/catmail-student-email.
- Add Google for Education applications to your UA faculty/Staff account:
- Meet with CAPLA IT in room 203 with your NetID information and get connected to CAPLA resources
- Server Access and Security Groups -
- CAPLA-admin.catnet.arizona.edu – contains both college and school level files and resources
- CAPLA-student.catnet.arizona.edu – contains both course file archives, student data, material labs resources and research
- Listservs – CAPLA primarily uses listservs to communicate with faculty, staff and students. To make sure you get all communications, you will want to make sure you get on the correct lists.
- Printer Access
- School and administration Printers: CAPLA uses shared printers in centralized locations.
- Plotters (Color and BW): CAPLA has several plotters available for students and faculty through the Papercut pay-for-print system. Faculty are provided with $100 credit per year for work-related printing.
- VPN connection setup – several resources at the UA are only accessible locally or using VPN, including posting final grades. You will want to install Cisco VPN.
- Download Cisco VPN at https://vpn.arizona.edu
- Box access - you should have access to certain folders based on your appointment
- Get on the emergency contact listserv by providing Lucas with your cellphone number and cellphone provider name. This list is used to send everyone a text message in the case of an emergency.
- Install the SafeApp and connect to the University of Arizona system. This mobile app provides a number of safety options for use on campus.
- Sign up for UAlert - an all-campus notification system operated by the Critical Incident Response Team (UACIRT). Subscribe at cirt.arizona.edu/ualert in order to receive messages about campus emergencies via text and/or email.
- Use the email signature generator located at: https://brand.arizona.edu/generator/email-signature to to create your email signature.
- Server Access and Security Groups -
Step 4: Ensure your faculty or staff page is created and added to the CAPLA directory.
- Contact Simmons Buntin, marketing and communications director, at sbuntin@arizona.edu, and let him know you would like to add your page and whether you would like to maintain your page directly (Simmons or a school representative may have already reached out to you on this). Simmons will create your initial page and then provide access and documentation for maintaining your page if you are interested.
- Work with Simmons on your introduction for the college e-newsletter, CAPLA Connections, and other college communications, if he has not already reached out to you.
- Provide your photo for the website (ideally, 1000px wide by 750px high). Otherwise, we will arrange for a photo to be taken of you.
- Be sure to follow CAPLA via social media! Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
Step 5: Go to the Student Union for your CatCard.
Step 6: Meet with CAPLA central administration to get door access and your keycard filled out.
Step 7: Go to the Key Card desk and get your keys. You will need the keycard form and your CatCard.
Step 8: Return to your home department and meet with other departments/people you will be working with.
