Sonoran Pentapus

CAPLA’s Sonoran Pentapus is a gridshell pavilion and integrated landscape designed to revitalize the entrance to the college. Completed in 2017, this design-build project was delivered through a series of undergraduate fourth- and fifth-year architecture studios and independent studios under the guidance of Christopher Trumble, associate professor of architecture.

At CAPLA, students have the opportunity to work with faculty and the community to design and build real, hands-on (and often award-winning) projects via studio courses, independent study or other courses or labs.

Instructors bring projects into the studio, along with funding and clients who participate in the design process. Students develop designs with the intention of participating in constructions. The projects are often cross-disciplinary, involving students from CAPLA and other UArizona programs.
