For more than a decade, CAPLA has provided cutting-edge educational programming through its Master of Real Estate Development program, available to both main campus and Arizona Global Campus students.
To ensure priority consideration for funding, applicants are encouraged to apply for admissions in January – see admissions & cost page for more details. However, applications will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis after the January priority deadline.

If so, the Master of Real Estate Development (MRED) program is for you. Our program is an unparalleled choice for students seeking careers in environmentally and socially responsible real estate development.
In addition to gaining knowledge and skills in real estate finance, market analysis, and project management, our students learn about affordable housing, green and resilient building design, neighborhood revitalization, and more.
Through the MRED program, students learn how to execute projects that perform well financially, socially, and environmentally, a philosophy we call the “triple bottom line” of socially responsible real estate development.”

Career Paths
The Master of Real Estate Development prepares graduates for a variety of roles in the finance and real estate industry, such as:
- Asset manager
- Chief operating officer
- Commercial or residential real estate agent

Our curriculum prepares students for these roles by building their skills in real estate finance and investment, sustainable development practices, cross-sector collaboration, professional communication, risk management, affordable housing, climate change resilience, and more.

Full-time students earn the MRED in three semesters. Our flexible program allows working professionals to enroll part-time and earn the degree at a pace that works for them. Online students may earn the degree in as little as 12 months.
The MRED degree is comprised of three graduate certificates that may be earned individually or as one complete degree: Real Estate Development Analysis, Real Estate Development Finance and Real Estate Development Practice.

Our graduates have found professional success in a variety of firms and public and private organizations, including commercial real estate services and investment firms, commercial and residential developers, financial services companies, commercial property valuation and advisory services firms, aerospace and defense companies, investment and advisory firms and property management services companies.

The CAPLA Student Experience
The Master of Real Estate Development is home to a diverse group of students, from recent graduates to experienced professionals, who join us from nearly every state in the nation and around the world.
You’ll have plenty of individual attention from faculty who are experts in the field, many of whom are practitioners themselves. The program has close ties to real estate industry leaders who share their expertise in the classroom as guest lecturers and through field trips and site visits.

Talie Bonds '23 MRED
Talie Bonds is a UArizona Track and Field student athlete. Though her goal is to become a professional athlete, she also understands the value of preparing for life outside of athletics, and knows the MRED will help her succeed in her long-term career aspirations.

Daniel Kuhlmann, Assistant Professor of Real Estate Development and Planning
Daniel Kuhlmann joined CAPLA in 2022. In his research, he focuses on land-use issues, real estate development and the businesses of residential landlords.

James Marian, Senior Lecturer in Real Estate Development
James Marian joined CAPLA in 2018. With a background in commercial real estate development, he teaches an array of real estate development courses and also strives to help students find internships and other career opportunities.

The MRED program is accepted by the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) Institute as one of its University Alliance program participants. The CCIM’s University Alliance program creates several advantages for students, including expediting how students earn CCIM designation after graduation.
