Senior Lecturer Laura Carr and Marketing Specialist Ellen Worth have been selected as recipients of the Darryl D. Dobras Award for Excellence, the highest annual honor for employees within the College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture.  

Named after 1972 Bachelor of Architecture graduate Darryl Dobras, the financial award is presented annually by CAPLA Dean Nancy Pollock-Ellwand to recognize outstanding achievements by faculty and staff of the college.

Carr, who in addition to exhibiting exemplary leadership, vision and service to both CAPLA and the broader community as the co-founder of the Native Peoples Design Coalition (NPDC), was awarded for her dedication to mentoring and supporting students, especially those from indigenous backgrounds. 

Being a co-founding member of the NPDC is my honor, and every day I am reminded of the generosity of those have helped bring this to life,” Carr said. “I have been graciously supported professionally and personally by students, colleagues and partners every step of the way; this award feels like a confirmation from my community that I have done well with what has been entrusted to me.” 

Carr said there is still much to accomplish, but receiving the award has reignited her drive to fulfill the NPDC mission. 

Worth was awarded for seamlessly stepping into a crucial role during a period of transition in marketing and communication leadership. She took on numerous tasks, providing invaluable support to the recruitment and advising teams. She also exemplifies collaboration and teamwork, which are exemplified through her ability to have a positive impact on the morale of those around her.

“Being part of the CAPLA community has been an incredible journey, shaping me in ways I never imagined,” she said. “It’s truly an honor to be recognized in this manner, and I am thankful for the unwavering support of my peers.”
