A project team in Professor Arlie Adkins' Spring 2019 Planning Projects course was awarded honorable mention in this year's student planning project category for their project, "Cobre Valley CHEER 5-4-3 Framework." The team of students—Anthony Aceves, Holly Barton, Jhentille Cargill, Chase Cushing, Monica Landgrave-Serrano, and Emma Thompson—worked with communities in the Globe-Miami region to craft a framework plan that focused on health, community, environment, connectivity, and economic growth.

The team partnered with various stakeholders including Gila County Health Services and the Water Resources Research Center (WRRC). The students worked with WRRC researcher Ashley Hullinger (MS. Planning 2015) who said of the team:

"The students acted as a spark to provoke thoughtful, action-oriented discussion and were able to draw upon the passion of local citizens, highlighting the beauty and outdoor recreation opportunities in the region and creating feasible steps to protect and benefit from them."
