The Arizona Alumni Association has named Heather Henricks Lenkin ’79 B.Arch as its 2020-2021 Alumna of the Year for the College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture. Heather was chosen for her outstanding career success, passionate work to protect the world’s cultural resources and unwavering support of the university.

Ash Avila, a Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Built Environments student from Nogales, Arizona, who will graduate in 2023, has been awarded an acclaimed Transportation Research Board (TRB) Minority Student Fellowship for 2022. Avila is one of 24 students selected by TRB.

wall-EIFS, a robotically applied, 3D-sprayable exterior insulation and finish system for building envelope retrofits, is one of 10 finalist prize winners of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Envelope Retrofit Opportunities for Building Optimization Technologies Prize, or E-ROBOT Prize.

Adriana Zuniga has been awarded the 2018 Water International Best Paper Award. The editors of Water International choose the winners in three-year cycles, recently naming the 2018, 2019 and 2020 awardees, who will be honored in Korea in December 2021.

Architecture and Sustainable Built Environments Assistant Professor Jonathan Bean has been named one of four 2021 CUES Distinguished Fellows by UArizona’s Center for University Education Scholarship. His project, Climate Heroes: Transforming the Built Environment, addresses the fundamental challenge of our time: climate change.

First-year MS Urban Planning student Chrissy Scarpitti has been awarded first place in the 2021 Planning Excellence Competition sponsored by the Friends of Planning for her project Resilient Energy: Community-Scale Solar Microgrid Siting on the Island of Puerto Rico.

Hunter Lohse '22 MLA was awarded second prize in the UArizona 2021 Student Showcase categories of Sustainability and Environmental Impact for his project Free Water: An Analysis of Potential Impacts of Large-Scale Residential Rainwater Harvesting, which calculates the potential impacts of rainwater harvesting if implemented by single-family homes across Tucson.

The Tucson chapter is sponsoring annual CREW Network membership for CAPLA graduate student Ella Jung, an MRED student who was offered the paid membership in recognition of her success early in the master's program.

For Hope Rock Park, Paige Anthony '21 MLA and Ramzy Bejjani '21 MLA chose a linear open space area five miles south of downtown Tucson along the Santa Cruz River, sandwiched between a residential neighborhood and a large shopping center.

Awarded to Yang and three other researchers, the four-year grant by the National Natural Science Foundation of China explores green infrastructure interactions with microclimate and stormwater at the urban block level.

Students from the CAPLA’s MS Urban Planning program have been recognized by the American Planning Association Arizona chapter for their work with the City of Tucson on planning and policy responses to displacement and gentrification.

Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning Professor Bo Yang has been awarded the prestigious Honor Award, Research from the American Society of Landscape Architects for the research project, "Particulate matter mitigation through urban green infrastructure: Research on optimization of block-scale green space."
