Brandon Herman AICP, PLA '12 MS Planning '14 MLA is a certified professional planner and licensed landscape architect with experience on a broad spectrum of projects that require attention to both complex site-specific design solutions and inclusive long-range visioning.

Herman calls himself a "career rover," explaining that he has had more design and planning jobs than than most people do in their entire careers. He says this has given him experience and skills in a broad range of specialties, from different focus areas, to design scales, to a variety of organizational structures.

He joined CAPLA for a virtual lecture entitled "Changing Course: Lessons from a Career Rover," speaking to CAPLA students about alternative career paths that they may have not yet considered. He advised students to not be afraid of switching things up: "As you exit school and you start to figure out what you want to do in your career, you should absolutely feel comfortable trying new things, especially if your current role isn't giving you the skills and experiences you want to have. Go try something new."

Over his 10 years of professional experience, Brandon has worked for a traditional landscape architecture firm developing plan sets and detailed construction drawings, an urban design and planning firm facilitating community-driven design solutions and drafting planning policy and most recently a public agency implementing watershed protection and restoration measures.
