Tamika L. Butler focuses on shining a light on inequality, inequity and social justice. In this CAPLA lecture, she challenges the audience of students, academics and urban planning professionals to consider the equitability and impact their planning decisions have on marginalized communities.
Brandon Herman '12 MS Planning '14 MLA is a certified professional planner and licensed landscape architect. He joined CAPLA for a virtual lecture titled "Changing Course: Lessons from a Career Rover," and spoke to& CAPLA students about alternative career paths that they may have not yet considered.
Park(ing) Day 2020, an annual worldwide event that encourages landscape architects, community members and students to transform metered parking spaces into temporary parklets, brought together MLA and BLA student's for CAPLA's project on Tucson's 4th Avenue.
With her MLA, Kendra Hyson has followed a path to leadership not just in landscape architecture but also in the movement for social equity in built environment design—as both a founder of The Urban Studio and in her current role as a landscape architect and planner for the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission.
Assistant Professor of Landscape Architecture and Planning Philip Stoker joined CAPLA in 2016. He researches how cities and neighborhoods can be designed and planned so that they have fewer negative environmental impacts.
Landscape Architecture and Urban Planning Professor Bo Yang has been awarded the prestigious Honor Award, Research from the American Society of Landscape Architects for the research project, "Particulate matter mitigation through urban green infrastructure: Research on optimization of block-scale green space."
Tucson Verde para Todos aims to address injustices around green infrastructure by promoting a strategy to address inequities in green infrastructure funding, siting and implementation through collaborative, participatory community engagement, as at Star Academic High School.
El Camino Verde is a project by Master of Landscape Architecture students Emily Lorenz, Heather Schmidt, Irene Pineda, Austin Young, and Jordan Lawson that creates solutions for addressing the hottest land plot in Tucson, Arizona.
