Assistant Architecture Professor Courtney Crosson is working with CAPLA students to design solutions for a more sustainable Tucson by 2050, thanks to sponsorship and advising by GLHN Architects & Engineers. In the Fall of 2021, students partnered with five community organizations to design sustainable urban food systems.

This fall, third-year Bachelor of Architecture students in studios led by Teresa Rosano, Dulce Arambula, Eduardo Guerrero, Siri Trumble and Beth Weinstein participated in a universal design awards program generated from a partnership between AGM/Ascension Wheelchair Lifts and CAPLA. Linda C. Samuels, assistant professor of urban design at the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, joins us for the CAPLA Lecture Series on the topic of "Infrastructural Opportunism, Infrastructural Urbanism, Infrastructural Optimism." Marfa Suite by CAPLA Assistant Professor of Practice in Architecture Jesús Edmundo Robles Jr and Cade Hayes (DUST Architects) was named one of 15 homes worldwide shortlisted for the esteemed AR 2021 House Award by Architectural Record.

One of the four Southwestern U.S. design shops called out by Dwell magazine in “Step Inside America’s Best Independent Design Shops” is Phoenix, Arizona’s Local Nomad, designed by CAPLA Senior Lecturer in Architecture Oscar Lopez and fellow principal Mihir Bavishi of s p a c e BUREAU.

Associate Professor of Architecture Aletheia Ida and UArizona students in architecture and biosystems engineering recently concluded a year-long, collaborative research and design project with the University of Washington and University of Pennsylvania funded by Google, with in-kind support from Microsoft.

CAPLA School of Architecture faculty members Robert Miller, Brad Lang, Oscar Lopez and Claudia Kappl-Joy plus former faculty member Judith Chafee have been honored with annual design awards by the Arizona chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

The semester before their final year in UArizona’s five-year Bachelor of Architecture program, students have the opportunity to reflect on their learnings over their first four years and put their best work forward in an exhibition and portfolio competition: the Richärd Kennedy Fourth Year Prize, providing $10,000 in awards and scholarships.
