Altaf Engineer and Esther Sternberg, two CAPLA professors who study how work and living spaces affect physical and mental health, say the pandemic has forced employers to think about how office spaces can reduce employees' stress and enhance their wellbeing.

Robert Vint, assistant professor of practice in architecture at CAPLA, was profiled in the Summer 2021 issue of Preservation Magazine for his conservation work on San Xavier del Bac, the landmark “White Dove of the Desert” mission located south of Tucson, Arizona.

Triplets David, Samantha and Matthew Rosenblatt will each have at least two familiar faces to look forward to seeing around campus as they start their first semester at UArizona after graduating from high school in New Jersey. Matthew is a first-year Bachelor of Architecture student.

Jonathan Bean was interviewed by KJZZ Radio regarding the role of building emissions in meeting climate change goals, noting that if we want to get to a zero carbon future by 2050, we must cut emissions from buildings in half by 2030.

“How do you retrofit a city for infrastructure that it doesn’t have?” asks Assistant Professor of Architecture Courtney Crosson in Civil Engineering magazine. “The idea is that instead of digging up roads and putting in single-purpose piping, green infrastructure is a multi-benefit way to adapt and upgrade city infrastructure.”

Completed by DUST Architects in winter 2020, the Marfa Suite located in Marfa, Texas, and designed by CAPLA Assistant Professor of Practice Jesús Edmundo Robles Jr and partner Cade Hayes of DUST Architects was featured in The New York Times story “How Do You Add On to the Perfect Small House? You Don’t.”

DUST Architects, led by Assistant Professor of Practice in Architecture Jesús Edmundo Robles Jr and founding principal Cade Hayes, has been awarded the top design prize by the University of New Mexico School of Architecture + Planning and the Thornburg Foundation for Southern Arizona's Casa Caldera.

Courtney Crosson, assistant professor of architecture, and Ladd Keith, assistant professor of planning and sustainable built environments, were quoted in the Salt Lake Tribune's July 12, 2021 story, "Neighbor wasting water? Is 'water shaming' the answer?"

The urban residential work of Ibarra Rosano Design Architects, the architecture firm established and led by CAPLA Assistant Professor of Practice Teresa Rosano and Luis Ibarra, was featured in ArchDaily, including a comprehensive gallery of images.

Lawrence G. Paull '64 B.Arch, who passed away in 2019, created award-winning sets for such films as Blade Runner, Back to the Future, City Slickers and Romancing the Stone. His wife Marcy Bolotin has endowed a CAPLA scholarship in his name.

Helen Erickson published the essay “Buffalo Soldiers on the Southwest Border” in The Field, the blog of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Professional Practice Network. The essay explores the historic Black landscape of Camp Naco.

Architecture and Sustainable Built Environments Assistant Professor Jonathan Bean has been named one of four 2021 CUES Distinguished Fellows by UArizona’s Center for University Education Scholarship. His project, Climate Heroes: Transforming the Built Environment, addresses the fundamental challenge of our time: climate change.
