CAPLA Celebrates Heather Henricks Lenkin ’79 B.Arch, 2020-2021 Alumna of the Year
The Arizona Alumni Association has named Heather Henricks Lenkin ’79 B.Arch as its 2020-2021 Alumna of the Year for the College of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture. Heather was chosen for her outstanding career success, passionate work to protect the world’s cultural resources and unwavering support of the university.

Meet Ash Avila ’23 BS SBE, 2022 Transportation Research Board Minority Student Fellow
Ash Avila, a Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Built Environments student from Nogales, Arizona, who will graduate in 2023, has been awarded an acclaimed Transportation Research Board (TRB) Minority Student Fellowship for 2022. Avila is one of 24 students selected by TRB.

UArizona Team Led by Architecture Professor Jonathan Bean and Engineering Professor Wolfgang Fink Wins $200,000 ‘American-Made Challenge’ E-ROBOT Prize
wall-EIFS, a robotically applied, 3D-sprayable exterior insulation and finish system for building envelope retrofits, is one of 10 finalist prize winners of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Envelope Retrofit Opportunities for Building Optimization Technologies Prize, or E-ROBOT Prize.

CAPLA Assistant Research Scientist Adriana Zuniga and Fellow Researchers Win Best Paper Award from Water International
Adriana Zuniga has been awarded the 2018 Water International Best Paper Award. The editors of Water International choose the winners in three-year cycles, recently naming the 2018, 2019 and 2020 awardees, who will be honored in Korea in December 2021.

Jesús Edmundo Robles Jr and DUST Architects Win 2021 Jeff Harnar Award for Contemporary Architecture in the Southwest
DUST Architects, led by Assistant Professor of Practice in Architecture Jesús Edmundo Robles Jr and founding principal Cade Hayes, has been awarded the top design prize by the University of New Mexico School of Architecture + Planning and the Thornburg Foundation for Southern Arizona's Casa Caldera.

Beth Weinstein and Laura Jensen Win 2021 Darryl D. Dobras Awards for Excellence
Associate Professor of Architecture Beth Weinstein and School of Landscape Architecture and Planning Program Coordinator Laura Jensen have been awarded CAPLA’s highest annual honor for employees: the Darryl D. Dobras Award for Excellence, awarded by Dean Nancy Pollock-Ellwand.

Assistant Professor Jonathan Bean Named 2021 CUES Distinguished Fellow for ‘Climate Heroes’ Curriculum
Architecture and Sustainable Built Environments Assistant Professor Jonathan Bean has been named one of four 2021 CUES Distinguished Fellows by UArizona’s Center for University Education Scholarship. His project, Climate Heroes: Transforming the Built Environment, addresses the fundamental challenge of our time: climate change.

UArizona Architecture Students Extend Winning Streak in Solar Decathlon Design Challenge
For the fourth consecutive year, CAPLA undergraduate architecture student teams were finalists in the international Solar Decathlon Design Challenge. This year the teams placed second in the Urban Single-Family Housing and Mixed-Use Multifamily Building divisions.

UArizona Awarded IDEAS Grant from U.S. Department of State's Capacity Building Program for U.S. Study Abroad
The grant, which includes Lecturer of Architecture Sandra Bernal-Cordova, will expand the Navigating Education in Borderlands Program (NEBP), a program through which UArizona students can build cultural competencies and learn about the history, people and culture from the intersecting borderlands area.

MS Urban Planning Student Envisions Resilient Energy Prioritization Tool for Post-Hurricane Puerto Rico
First-year MS Urban Planning student Chrissy Scarpitti has been awarded first place in the 2021 Planning Excellence Competition sponsored by the Friends of Planning for her project Resilient Energy: Community-Scale Solar Microgrid Siting on the Island of Puerto Rico.

Architecture Professor of Practice Teresa Rosano Wins Inaugural Anne Graham Rockfellow Memorial Award
Teresa Rosano has been named the inaugural Anne Graham Rockfellow Memorial Award winner by the University of Arizona chapter of WIAS. Rockfellow, who taught at UArizona from 1897 to 1900, paved the way for other women pursuing architecture as an academic degree and profession.
