And with a grand sweeping gesture, the 2021 academic year has come to a close.
It was a beautiful sight to see our students gather and celebrate in person. CAPLA hosted intimate, yet socially distanced gatherings in our Underwood Sonoran Garden for graduates of our degree programs. The attending students, faculty and staff rejoiced in their accomplishments as well as the opportunity to be together.
CAPLA then joined the College of Fine Arts and College of Humanities for a festive, in-person graduation ceremony at Arizona Stadium, celebrating CAPLA’s 110 graduates. It was enormously gratifying to watch the proud parents and families experience and celebrate the gigantic accomplishments of the students. It was wonderful that the students were able to take in the sense of collective pride coming from their families and our community. It was as it should be.
Graduation, as always, marks a significant milestone and CAPLA is thrilled to celebrate our graduates and welcome them as alumni this year. We also acknowledge the real impact of your contributions to student success. Many of these graduates were recipients of scholarships and other support, without which they would have struggled or not prevailed during the last, particularly challenging pandemic year.
In the 2020-2021 academic year, CAPLA:
- Awarded $170,000 in scholarships
- Awarded 139 scholarships from 56 separate scholarship funds
- Supported 66 student scholars with an average award of $2,450
Thank you all very much for your encouragement of our students, faculty and staff. Your generosity, support and spirit of participation have been overwhelming in a year like no other.
We all have different reasons for making gifts to organizations we care about. But when we experience and see the results of our philanthropy, as at graduation, it is transformative for all of us—YOU make incredible things happen.
We are humbled and grateful.
