About the Speaker
Luis Ibarra is the Design Principal and Co-founder of Ibarra Rosano Design Architects, founded in 1999. The firm has earned numerous national and international awards for its sensitive approach to designing in the Sonoran Desert, emphasizing responsive and responsible design ethics. Luis and his team are renowned for their site-specific and land-integrated work, fostering connections between people and place while committing to environmental stewardship and inspired living within the natural world.
Luis has served as the Design Studio Coordinator at the University of Arizona College of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture (CAPLA), focusing on "Land Ethics" in his design studio curriculum. Inspired by mentorship under Australian architect Glen Murcutt, his ecological approach is deeply informed by Sonoran Desert nature patterns, aiming to create profound connections between individuals and their surroundings, with a strong focus on making a positive impact on the environment.
As co-founder and principal designer of Ibarra Rosano Design Architects, Inc., Luis's innovative design leadership has led the firm to earn recognition as one of Arizona's top design firms for modern desert architecture. The firm’s work has been published internationally and has received over 70 regional, national, and international design awards.
