David Ortega

Before becoming Scottsdale’s 12th Mayor in January 2021, David D. Ortega spent more than four decades shaping Arizona’s built environment as a practicing architect. A graduate of the University of Arizona, Ortega began his architectural journey under the mentorship of Bennie Gonzales—renowned designer of Scottsdale City Hall, the Civic Center Library, and the Center for Performing Arts. Ortega would go on to design numerous landmark buildings in Old Town and throughout the city, helping define Scottsdale’s iconic blend of Southwestern heritage and modern sophistication.
