Biography
The CAPLA experience means to be an active participant in all aspects of the college. Always accept a challenge and never be afraid to ask for help from peers and professors when needed.
Hello, I’m Elizabeth Rust, I was raised in Tucson Arizona, and I am currently in the Bachelor or Architecture program at CAPLA. Over time CAPLA has become more than just a school for me and has become a space of creativity and collaboration, where our studio culture feels like a second family. Being part of this community has shaped how I think, design, and grow.
Outside of the studio, I love hiking, swimming, and spending time with friends. These moments help me recharge and stay inspired. One of my biggest personal challenges has been learning to overcome people I have looked up to my whole life doubting me and being able to embrace the iterative nature of design. The process is long but the growth that comes from overcoming challenges is undeniable.
Looking ahead, I hope to gain an internship that allows me to design environmentally responsible structures and contribute to a more sustainable built environment. I currently work as a lifeguard, which has taught me how to stay calm under pressure and be a reliable team member. These skills do translate pretty well into the fast paced world of architecture.
Some advice that I would love to give for prospective student is don’t be afraid to ask questions, take creative risks, and lean into the support around you. CAPLA is a place where you’ll be challenged, but also deeply supported. You will make lifelong friends who will always be by your side supporting and encouraging you. I have personally fallen in love with CAPLA and can’t wait to share that experience with others.
