Biography

Mike relocated to Phoenix from Tucson in 2020 to work with LOCALSTUDIO as their Senior Director of Design.  Mike was named the 2019 AIA National Young Architect Award Recipient and was recognized in 2018 in Design + Construction magazine in their national '40 Under 40'. Mike recieved the 2016 AIA Arizona 'AIA 10' award, and in 2015 was listed as Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce/Arizona Daily Star '40 Under 40' recipient.  Mike was the youngest named Principal in the 40+ year history of Line and Space.  Mike led this firms pursuit of the $35M Maricopa County Central Animal Welfare Improvement project and was the lead design architect for the 70,000sf Pima Animal Care Center project in Tucson.  Mike worked to help expand Line and Space reach into China.  Mike has served as a board member of AIA Arizona where he implemented a scholarship for AIA Arizona members to attend the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) conference. He was Director of AIA Southern Arizona and led the chapter's Young Architects Forum.  He was Chairperson for the City of Tucson Design Review Board and a founding Board Member of Friends of Pima Animal Care Center.  Mike states:  Off the Clock he enjoys hiking, watching UofA basketball, puzzles, and new restaurants.  He is obsessed with car magazines (collects every issue of four publications) and dislikes re-watching movies - except for "Gran Torino".  Mike also claims he can identify "with a high degree of accuracy" - the make, model, and year range of any vehicle by seeing a tiny part (e.g., bumper).
